Exclusive interview with Tilda Swinton "The Ancient One" in Doctor Strange: Supreme Sorcerer.
After watching the film (this week you'll be able to read my review)I was very curious to meet Tilda Swinton, who plays The Ancient One, "The Antiquity" in Doctor Strange; Supreme Sorcerer whom she described in a single word as "Perspective."
About his austere costume from The Ancient One, in Doctor Strange: Supreme Sorcerer, he told us that he "looked like a pajamas" and that the biggest challenge of playing this character was "casting the spells, learning all those amazing things with his fingers and then remembering what he it must be said at the same time."
How did you feel in the role of a character who is traditionally of a Man Asatic?
In fact, in the comic he was a very ancient Tibetan man living on top of a mountain. In the script of the film they gave me they asked me to play an old Celtic person, they wanted to modify the stereotype, they felt that there were a couple of great characters in the film with racial stereotypes. And Director Scott wanted me to be a woman, which I thank him for. "Putting a woman in the Marvel universe, who isn't in her twenties and doesn't ride a bikini, was a really good thing, it was a lot of fun."
The most difficult scene from Doctor Strange for Tilda was the fanciful, difficult and funny fights in some ways and to think that my task was for The Ancient One to be completely whole through all the fights.
About the doubles or stunts. "I did most of my scenes, but there was a surprising double (Julia) that became my friend and well we all had doubles, as always, because they are the ones who do the dangerous things."
Tilda Swinton said that she suggested that The Ancient One be bald and after many tests, they chose that look that for her is "old but at the same time modern and radical".
Did you learn anything from yourself during this movie?
I liked that we had action-packed scenes, and suddenly we had to change rooms and make a very quiet Zen scene. So I learned that it's very important to do both, you know how to have an energetic life at the same time as some introspective, it's a really healthy thing.
Tilda Swinton told us that she was very lucky not to have to audiopick up the role of The Ancient One i was in LA working with the Coen Brothers and they told me that Scott Derrickson wanted to see me, when we met she told me she was making this film and there was written a part for me and basically said, "If you don't, I'm going to have to rewrite it."
I felt intrigued and honored to have such good luck. "It's going to be a great Marvel movie about creating and not destroying," Scott told me.
What's next for Tilda?
I'm going to start a movie in two weeks, a film with my friend Luca Guadagnino, with whom I've worked before on "I am Love" and another "A Bigger Splash" that was released last year and we're making a new film called "Susperia", I'm very excited.
