San Antonio Rodeo 2025: Free Activities for the Whole Family

The San Antonio Rodeo is one of the most anticipated events of the year, attracting families and visitors from all over Texas.

This is my second year attending, so I can tell you that if you’re looking for a unique experience that combines Texan tradition, entertainment, and countless free activities, this is the perfect place for you!

In this post, I’ll share everything you need to know to make the most of this iconic event.

What is the San Antonio Rodeo?

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is an annual event that takes place over three weeks (from February 6 to 23) at the Frost Bank Center and its surrounding areas.

In addition to professional rodeo competitions, this event includes concerts, a massive carnival, animal exhibitions, delicious fair food, and many free activities for the whole family.

Tips to Make the Most of Your Visit to the Rodeo

Arrive early: Popular activities, like the pig races, fill up quickly.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes: Be prepared to walk a lot. Cowboy boots are a great option.
Plan your activities: Check the daily schedule so you don’t miss your favorite events.
Explore the food: Try the famous turkey legs, funnel cakes, and other rodeo classics.
Parking: Arrive early to find a spot, or consider using rideshare services to avoid traffic.

My Experience at the Rodeo

I had the chance to visit the rodeo this year, and I can say it’s an experience that is totally worth it.

The pig races were a hit with my family, and we had so much fun at the petting zoo.

We also enjoyed the live music and captured tons of amazing photos all around the fair.

The festive atmosphere and variety of activities make it an event for everyone!

Free Activities at the San Antonio Rodeo

Did you know that your rodeo ticket includes more than just access to competitions and exhibitions? There’s a long list of free activities included with your admission. Here are some of the best ones to check out!

  1. Swifty Swine Pig Races
The famous pig races! This was our first time watching these little athletes compete with so much enthusiasm. It’s a spectacle that delights both kids and adults. And the prize for the winner? A cookie!
  2. Buckaroo Farms
This area showcases farm animals like horses, sheep, ducklings, and chicks. We loved the display where baby chicks hatch from their eggs! It’s perfect for animal lovers.
  3. Petting Zoo
Take the kids to meet and pet goats, sheep, and other friendly animals at the petting zoo. Entry is free, but you can buy feed for the animals if you want.
  4. DairyMax Dairy Discovery Zone
Learn how to milk a (fake) cow and discover more about dairy production in this fun and interactive educational zone. This was one of my kids’ favorite activities, so we couldn’t miss it!
  5. Stroll Through Stable Lane
Say hello to the horses and other animals in the stables located just outside the Freeman Coliseum. Don’t forget to take a photo while sitting on a horse!
  6. Live Music at the Street Fair and Michelob Ultra Roundup
Sing and dance to live bands while soaking up the festive rodeo atmosphere.
  7. Photo with the Rodeo Sign
You can’t leave without capturing a memory at the iconic “San Antonio Rodeo” sign. There are plenty of Instagram-worthy photo opportunities throughout the event!
  8. Visit the Livestock Competitors
Head over to the livestock area to see the animals competing. Watch as they are bathed, weighed, and fed—a fun behind-the-scenes experience.
  9. Walk Through the Candy Maze
This colorful pathway features all kinds of candies. While the candy isn’t free, the maze is fun to explore!
  10. Carnival Area
The carnival offers rides for all ages, games of skill, and snacks like funnel cakes. Note that you’ll need to purchase a wristband for the rides.
  11. Explore the Shops
In the Expo Hall, browse booths selling clothing, jewelry, hats, crafts, and more.
