Explore Museum Reach & The Pearl District: San Antonio Art, Food & Culture

We visited the Museum Reach of the San Antonio Riverwalk and The Pearl District, a quieter and more cultural side of the city. Giveaway at the end!

Cultural and culinary experience collage in San Antonio: visit to the San Antonio Museum of Art, chicken dish at Tre Trattoria, ceviche from Mezquite, and Brenda at Pullman Market next to a Cow Parade sculpture.

Disclosure: I was invited to visit Museum Reach and The Pearl District. Tickets and some meals were provided, but all opinions are my own.

I love discovering beautiful corners of San Antonio. This tour combines art, history, and local flavors that every visitor should know. Here’s a mini guide for your next trip to San Antonio.

Brenda enjoying a coffee at Milla Coffee, a local San Antonio café with an outdoor park atmosphere.

Café with Good Vibes: Milla Coffee

We started the day with a coffee at Milla Coffee, a small outdoor spot perfect for starting the day with energy.

It’s very close to the San Antonio Museum of Art, so you can walk there while enjoying the view of this peaceful area of the Riverwalk.

Caprese salad served at Tre Trattoria, a restaurant with a terrace in the Museum Reach section of the River Walk in San Antonio.

Lunch with a Riverwalk View: Tre Trattoria

Next, we had lunch at Tre Trattoria, an Italian restaurant located behind SAMA, in the same museum complex.

This restaurant offers an elegant and relaxed atmosphere, with a shaded outdoor patio overlooking the Riverwalk, perfect for lunch. They also have indoor seating.

Everything was delicious! We tried the Slow-Roasted Tomato Caprese, Smoked Gouda White Truffle Radiatore, and Herb-Roasted Half Chicken, accompanied by an Italian Spritz and a lemon cream dessert.

The combination of Italian flavors and the river view makes this place a must for anyone visiting San Antonio.

Art and Culture at the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA)

After lunch, we visited the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA), a cultural treasure located in a historic building, the former Lone Star Brewery. During our visit, we did a self-guided tour and enjoyed fascinating exhibitions such as:

  • Pase Usted. A giant, colorful mural welcoming you in the museum’s Great Hall. On display until September 14, 2025.
  • Ángel Rodríguez-Díaz: The Goddess Triptych Reunited. (included with your admission ticket)
  • Readymade Remix: New Approaches to Familiar Objects.
  • Some special exhibitions may have an additional charge.

The museum is huge with four floors full of art from around the world. My favorites were the Oceanic and Asian art exhibitions and the ancient Greek sculptures.

It also has a colorful glass bridge on the top floor connecting the two wings of the museum.

Be prepared to spend a good amount of time exploring – we spent 3 hours touring the collections and still ran out of time!

Night scene in The Pearl District of San Antonio, a modern revitalized area where families and couples gather, with the old brewery and The Pearl sign illuminated in the background.

The Pearl: Historic District and Cultural Hub

The Pearl District is a historic and modern community in the heart of San Antonio, very close to downtown. It’s one of my favorite spots to take family and friends when they visit, take photos, and enjoy the atmosphere.

he Pearl District is perfect for families, especially at night. There’s an open green area with tables, plenty of space for kids to run and play, and areas to sit on the grass and relax. They also have a splash pad for kids to enjoy.

This district combines historic architecture with a modern vibe, featuring green spaces, shops, boutiques, restaurants, and unique cultural experiences.

Pullman Market

After the museum, we visited the Pullman Market, a gourmet market inside The Pearl offering gourmet products, multiple food stalls, and several restaurants! It’s an nice store to explore, with local products and a modern atmosphere in a historic building.

This time, we visited one of its restaurants – here’s the experience.

Dinner at Mezquite

For dinner, we chose Mezquite, a Sonora-style restaurant inside Pullman Market.

We tried the black ceviche (made with tuna), choriqueso, tomato salad, and bistec with dried chili jus, all accompanied by refreshing hibiscus and ginger agua fresca.

For dessert, we had a pecan flan with a hint of orange. Everything was delicious, but the bistec was my favorite, cooked to perfection.

Mezquite is vibrant and cozy – perfect to end a day full of culture and great food. As we left the market, we spotted one of the colorful Cow Parade sculptures, a public art display.

River Walk in the calm section of Museum Reach, near The Pearl District in San Antonio, perfect for strolling and enjoying the cultural and modern atmosphere.

Riverwalk in The Pearl District

We ended our day with a walk from The Pearl to the Riverwalk, a calm and peaceful stretch of the river. Ducks swam nearby, and we passed by charming little waterfalls that made the walk even more relaxing.

Next to the river, you’ll find Hotel Emma, one of San Antonio’s most iconic hotels. I’ve been to its beautiful lobby, which still features machinery and artifacts from when the building was a brewery – it’s full of history and charm. The hotel is home to amazing restaurants and bars, and it’s known as a place where celebrities often stay.
